New album: ‘WE ARE TRIO DOWNTOWN’ available on BANDCAMP
Happy to announce our new album which is going to be released on the Sound Liaison Label, also in hi-res audio.

“Trio Downtown are magicians. Not because they make the familiar disappear, but because they reveal something new within it.
Songs as diverse as Petula Clark’s “Downtown,” Nat King Cole’s “Ramblin’ Rose,” and Duke Ellington’s “In My Solitude”
could hardly come from more different worlds. Yet in the hands of Trio Downtown, these compositions become part of one coherent musical landscape.
Here we have Paul Berner’s solid, melodic, and deeply lyrical double bass; Michael Vatcher’s highly textural, conversational, and unpredictable drumming; and Tim Langedijk’s fluid, atmospheric, yet bluesy guitar — three strong individual voices bringing a lifetime of experience and a deeply personal approach to music-making.
Yet the focus is never on individuality. Instead, they create a shared musical language, blending jazz improvisation with elements of blues, country, and Americana, in search of — and magically finding — new depth and coherence in the stories these songs tell.
What makes this album even more remarkable is how it came into being. The performances were recorded live before a studio audience of 75 people, part of Sound Liaison’s Jazz in 2 concert series, so no second chances, just three musicians completely present in the moment.
Throughout, the music conveys three artists playing for the sheer pleasure of making music, three musicians tuned to each other, giving every musical idea room to unfold. Melodies intertwine, rhythms appear and dissolve, and spontaneous ideas meet carefully composed statements with complete naturalness. Every held note, every silence, every unexpected turn becomes part of the dialogue.
Trio Downtown is a meeting of three unique voices, creating music that could only happen this way, at this moment in time.”

Esther van Hees – ‘Nazomer’ release
On September 18th, Belgian singer Esther van Hees released her album ‘Nazomer’. The album serves as a musical love letter to the Dutch “luisterlied” (storytelling/listening song) and the classic Dutch songbook. It features twelve Dutch songs written by various renowned lyricists and composers, such as Friso Wiegersma and Ruud Bos. The band on the album is Jeroen Vierdag (bass), Marcel Serierse (drums), Bert van den Brink (piano) and myself (guitar).

With Ilse DeLange @ Eva Jinek
On September 4th I had the pleasure of accompanying Ilse DeLange, together with Martijn van Agt & Aram Kersbergen @ the Eva Jinek TV-show, honoring Dolly Parton.
Joost Lijbaart’s ‘Sunflower’
In August 2026 Joost Lijbaart and his trio released a single: ‘Amelie’. This is from the album ‘Love Letters’, which is going to be released soon.
This new trio brings together drummer Joost Lijbaart with rising talents River Adomeit (bass) and Amelie Spinks (vocals & guitar).
Rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition, the group combines poetic depth with the spirit of Americana. Their original compositions draw inspiration from country and folk music combined with jazz, spoken word and improvisation.
The trio offers a fresh and soulful approach on contemporary acoustic music. Alexander Oliver (spoken word), Wolfert Brederode (piano) and I were guest musicians on the album.
